Welcome Sam to the Team
Published:08/22/2017

What are you looking forward to the most about joining the team here at AYC?
I’m looking to grow within the company and learn as much as I can from everyone. This is my first job out of coding school and I hope to move into that direction over time here at AYC Media. The atmosphere here is great, and I’d also like to get to know everyone better over time and work collaboratively on many projects.
Describe a typical day for you in the office.
So far, I’ve been learning the Client Support Specialist position with Andrew. Typically, every day we have been going through motion of opening, directing and fixing ticket issues our clients send to us. This involves using many different resources to get the job done, from working with various team members to many different applications. Though, every day I strive to learn something new here and improve what I have learned always with the intention of molding my skills to better assist the company and my team members.
What were you doing before you joined the team?
Before joining AYC Media I was attending school for Coding and Design. After I finished, I was applying to many companies hoping to find just the right job and luckily landed a job with AYC Media. I also continued working on various small coding projects to keep my coding skills intact which I still do to this day.
Have any interesting hobbies?
As of right now, the biggest one that stands out is coding, I love to put things together and to create new design concepts. Though most recently, before yet another injury I was practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which I have done for the past 7-8 years. Music is also very important to me, it’s a stress reliever and escape when I spend time with myself.
What’s your go-to music when you’re working?
Well, this won’t be interesting! If I’m not weird enough, I actually like meditating music with piano, harps or violin, at a specific hertz for concentration.
Tell us something unique about yourself, a fun fact that we don't know.
I sailed all 7 Seas for seven years on a sail boat built by my Great-grandfather with his bare hands... I’m just kidding, but I did work at a beach house on an island as a private/personal chef! I had my own pool room and was just a two-minute walk from the beach. My job duties were to create unique dishes for dinner every day and entertain guests!
Want to share with us a project you have worked on in the past that you are most proud of?
I’ve worked in a few small projects during school, but maybe one that stands out to me is actually quite simple. It was the project that made me realize how much I truly wanted to become a Web Developer and how awesome the feeling of creating something I am proud of is. It’s a simple music player with just a couple songs preloaded, but it incorporates a few different concepts I’ve learned, click play and use all the buttons, the arrow keys and space bar work the functions too.
Have you seen any industry trends recently that inspired you?
I’d say there are many design concepts that are popular today in the Web Developer world have inspired me, from frame works to font libraries. The thought that every day something new comes out or someone is doing something completely different and awesome intrigues me. I like innovators and pioneers, so anything new inspires me and gets my attention.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
“If you want something you have to consistently go after it with diligence and respect, but not at the expense of others. Create your own success by building people, by giving, not taking and you will reap your harvest in your own due time.”
