Mobile Checkout: Coming To A Retailer Near You

Following in the footsteps of J.C. Penney, Apple and a slew of other tech-savvy retailers, Nordstrom has announced plans to incorporate iPod Touch devices in place of traditional cashiers and cash registers in all of their locations. Freeing cashiers from their stance at the end of the check out line will not only push the brand towards technological evolution, but it will also be one step closer to what some retailers (Costco and Sam's Club) refer to as "line busting," where customers can simply hit the self service line with a special barcode to get through the process even more flawlessly. So, is this the wave of the future? Seems like a resounding 'yes' to us.

Not only does mobile checkout solve the problem of customer wait time, but it also gives retailers the ability to send email reciepts (in lieu of paper) and gives retailers a leg up on companies such as Amazon, where digital shopping has proven particularly successful.
