Responsive Media for Every Platform

 

Mobile work is becoming such a large part of our daily lives and creative design that can adapt to any screen size has become an immediate necessity in the online industry. We not only need to scale headlines and text elements, but also images, graphics and even embedded videos.

YouTube and Vimeo provide a nice little embed widget, which allows for simple scaling of media content. This typically includes a fixed width and height for each media element. The approach is fine for older layouts, but it doesn't scale properly in a responsive design.

While there is no official “global" solution for this problem, we've stumbled across an interesting blog post that offers a nifty little solution. It appears to work successfully with YouTube and Vimeo, and it may work with other platforms as well.
