What are you looking forward to the most about joining the team here at AYC?
Since this is my first real full time job related to my major I’m super excited just to see what I can learn from everyone in the office. There’s so many different talents and lifestyles here that I can’t wait to learn from and I’m hoping that maybe someone will learn something from me too.
Describe a typical day for you in the office.
So far, there hasn’t really been a typical day for me. I’m still kind of settling in so mostly I just do whatever anyone has for me. It’s cool being able to help multiple departments every day.
What were you doing before you joined the team?
Before I joined the team I was a full time student at Drexel University and a Part-time Barista at Saxbys Drexel. My life was crazy busy so I’m definitely enjoying being able to go home at the end of the day and just be done until the next morning.
Have any interesting hobbies?
My hobbies change with the seasons, I’ve been really into photography for most of my life so that tends to stick through the seasons, but my dog just moved to Philly with me so I’m super excited to start taking her out on walks and hikes now that it’s getting warm — so I guess that will be my hobby for the spring.
What’s your go-to music when you’re working?
My go-to music changes depending on my mood. Right now I’ve been putting together a Springtime Feels playlist which is mostly Ed Sheeran and Jon Bellion.
Tell us something unique about yourself, a fun fact that we don't know.
A unique fact about me would be despite the fact that I’m only 21, I’ve managed to collect 8 tattoos. I got my first on my 18th birthday and I haven’t stopped since. I'm super interested in art and how a certain thing can mean something different for everyone. All of my tattoos have a meaning or a story and I really enjoy being able to carry illustrated bits of my life with me at all times.
Want to share with us a project you have worked on in the past that you are most proud of?
I don’t know that I have one singular project that I’m most proud of. It tends to change every time I complete a project because it becomes my favorite for a while. Right now though, the project I’m most proud of is actually the project that introduced me to AYC. I worked as the project manager for the online store section of the Morris Animal Refuge website. The project was for a class and at the end of the first section of the project, my department head at Drexel University said it was the best project and presentation he had seen in the 5 years since the class had been running. As project manager it made me feel really great that my team worked so well together and was so successful throughout the whole project.
Have you seen any industry trends recently that inspired you?
The industry trend that has really grabbed my attention lately is the switch to wearable devices and how interconnected and automated everything is becoming. I honestly really want to buy a smart watch (probably an Apple Watch) but also keep seeing it advance so I haven’t gotten one yet because I don’t want to miss out on any cool features.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
The best advice I think I’ve ever gotten is actually from a book, but my grandpa really embodied it and made it real for me. It’s a quote from Atticus Finch in To kill a Mockingbird and it reads “but before I can live with other folks I’ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience.” It has always reminded me to stay true to what I believe in because at the end of the day you always have to be able to live with yourself and the choices you make.
