New Hire: Welcome Andrew to the Team

Published:08/14/2015

The AYC Media team is rapidly expanding! Our new Front-End Developer, Andrew, comes all the way from California to join us. Let's get to know him a little better.

You’ve come a long way, from California. What are you looking forward to the most about the move?
Coming from California I’d have to say having some real weather and rain again in my life. We don’t really get seasons other than summer, which is nice for sure, but I’ve lived there most of my life. It’ll be a nice change of pace…then again I’m doing this move right before winter, which I hear can be pretty bad here, so you might want to ask me again then!

What were you doing before you joined the team?
I’ve been doing Creative and Front End Development for a small business I founded with my business partner in 2006. I first started doing web development at 17 and have generally been working by myself or with my business partner since then. I’m really looking forward to being part of a team -  especially after meeting everyone here at AYC.

Have any interesting hobbies?
Well, I’m a gamer at heart so a lot of my hobbies revolve around that. I’ve been programming for fun since I was little, starting off with simple text based games to now prototyping ideas in unity. I’ve always been the kid who took things apart and put things back together. So I enjoy puzzles and challenges that game development provides.
On a more traditional side I also really enjoy camping, hiking, snowboarding, making art (although I haven’t in way too long), bike riding, etc.
Oh yeah, and I have a serious love for finding good places to eat. I love food.

What’s your go-to music when you’re working?
While working I like to keep it pretty chill.  So Bonobo, Abinate, Draper, Kobist, R/D Swan, Haywire, Clozee, Mirrored Theory, etc.

I also have a serious love for drum and bass, specifically the more liquid UK side of the genre; Hospital Records is the label that made me fall in love with drum and bass.

Tell us something unique about yourself, a fun fact that we don't know.
I spent a couple years of my life living in a log cabin at 9,300 feet in Colorado.

What’s your favorite GIF?

How am I supposed to narrow it down to one?!

Here’s one I laugh every time at:

And then there’s this:

Have you seen any industry trends recently that inspired you?
Well I see the web opening up to be accessed in a lot of new and exciting ways in the future. From Virtual Reality

(Oculus) to Augmented Reality (Hololens), I think the future holds some amazing and creative ways for humans to be able to access and display information and media.  As the lines between games, interactive media and the web blur, I see us being able to do much more creative applications as people get used to and demand more immersive experiences.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
Never work for free.
